About

The Trinity County Fair Association

A nonprofit that runs the Trinity County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Hayfork, and has been putting on the Trinity County Fair since 1921.

The Association is run by a volunteer board of directors, drawn from across the county, with a small office staff. Its meetings are open to the public and anyone who signs in may speak.

What the Association is for

The Fair is five days in July. The fairgrounds are open all year. The Association's work is both: putting on the Fair, and keeping a set of buildings, barns, arenas and grounds available to the community for the other fifty weeks.

That means agricultural and youth programs, community events, facility rentals, a campground, and the upkeep that all of it depends on.

[REPLACE: MISSION_STATEMENT - the Association's adopted mission statement, verbatim, as approved by the board. It appears on meeting agendas. Publishing the official wording is better than this paraphrase.]

Since 1921

The first Trinity County Fair was held in 1921. The 2026 Fair marked 105 years, under the theme "105 Years of Country Cheer".

[REPLACE: HISTORY_DETAIL - there is a century of history here and nothing on the website tells it. Even a few paragraphs from a long standing board member or the local historical society would make this the most read page on the site.]

The board

The Association is governed by a board of nine directors. Five seats are associated with the county's supervisorial districts, and the remainder are at large. The board elects its own officers, including a President, a Vice President and a Secretary.

Directors are volunteers. They are not paid, and most of them are also working the gates, the barns, and the clean up alongside everyone else.

Meetings are open

Regular board meetings are held at 6:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month unless otherwise posted. Anyone may attend, and anyone who signs in may address the board.

How it is paid for

The Fair runs on local support

California cut state funding for fairs in 2010. Since then, fairs across the state have depended far more on what they can raise locally, and Trinity County is no exception.

The Association's income comes from admissions, facility rentals, the campground, vendor fees, memberships, sponsorships, and donations. Sponsorship in particular carries most of the awards and attractions at the Fair.

Public business, done in public

Agendas are posted in advance and minutes are published after approval. Contracts, rental agreements, and financial reports are presented at public meetings.

If you want to know how a decision was made, the minutes are the place to look, and the office can help you find the right meeting.
